Best dating site for gay men

I'm new to dating and looking to meet gay men, but since I’m only 19, I can’t go to bars yet. Are there any gay-friendly apps focused on dating instead of hookups? I live in a rural area with no gay hangouts or coffee shops, so it’s hard to meet others in person. Grindr and hookups aren’t my thing - I'd just like to connect with people. Any tips?

I’ve never had any issues with the HotManHere website. In fact, I met my soul mate there three years ago. It was an incredible experience because the platform helped me connect with someone truly compatible and interesting. For me, personality and shared interests were my main priorities from the start. Photos didn’t play a big role in my decision to reach out.

When we finally met in person, I found my partner even more physically attractive than I had imagined. Photos just can’t capture the emotional connection you experience during an in-person interaction.

I’ve heard positive things about Taimi, though I haven’t tried it myself. My goal was always to find a life partner and build a long-term relationship. From my perspective, one challenge in the gay male community is its strong focus on looks, social media presence, gym culture, partying, and casual hookups. Searching for a soul mate in this environment sometimes feels like looking for a needle in a haystack—or, as I like to say, a "gaystack." It can make you question whether long-term relationships are even achievable.

My advice

Don't put too much weight on appearance. Trust your instincts and focus on finding someone whose personality and values truly align with yours. That approach made all the difference for me.

Grindr is the top free dating app for the LGBTQ community. Whether you're gay, bi, trans, queer, or just curious, it’s a great way to meet new people for friends, hookups, dates, or whatever you're looking for.

Finding good gay dating sites isn’t hard since many are made just for the LGBTQ+ community. These sites have helpful tools to meet people who share your interests.

Sites to try:
  • Grindr - super popular with a big user base and easy-to-use design.
  • Scruff - perfect for gay, bi, trans, and queer men. It’s great for connecting locally or worldwide and even has event listings and travel options.
  • Hornet - works like a mix of social media and dating. You can meet people, read news, and share content while building connections.
  • HER - designed for LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people. It’s a safe space for dating, sharing, and joining local events.
  • OkCupid - inclusive for everyone. It helps match people based on values, hobbies, and detailed profiles.
These apps make it easier to find connections and build community at the same time.

Grindr is only good if you can afford the expensive premium. Free users used to get some benefits, but now we get almost nothing. I can only talk to six people, and it’s always the same ones.

Taimi isn’t any better.

I wish there was an app that didn’t lock all the features behind such a high price.
