Is online dating really worth it? Share your thoughts!

I'm at a point where being alone is really getting to me, and I’m considering trying online dating - but I'm not sure if it’s worth it. Apps like Tinder seem so focused on looks, and as an average guy, I'm worried I won’t get many matches. Even if I do, I'm not sure it’ll lead to an actual date.

The problem is, I have no idea how else to meet people. Going to a bar and striking up a conversation feels way too intense for me socially, and I don't want to come across as a creep.

I feel stuck. I don't know how to start talking to girls without feeling awkward or making things weird. It’s like I'm trapped in a cycle, and I don't know how to break out of it.

If you have other opportunities to meet women in real life, don’t hesitate to explore them. This could include meeting through friends, attending meetups, striking up a conversation while you’re out, or giving speed dating a shot.

If you avoid using dating apps, you’re cutting out one of the easiest ways to connect with people actively looking for relationships. Other options are limited, as you’ll often meet people who either aren’t interested in dating or are already taken.

In bigger cities, meetup groups can be a good alternative. These groups are usually for singles who want to participate in activities without the pressure of being hit on. It’s a way to socialize and maybe meet someone naturally over time. Another option could be church - while most attendees aren’t necessarily looking to date, you might come across single people open to a relationship.

That said, I still think dating apps are the best tool for meeting someone. The problem might be that you’re treating apps differently than you would a real-life social setting, like a party or bar. The key is to be natural and positive - don’t come off as demanding or overly insecure.

If you’re looking for someone who’s happy, independent, and ready for a relationship, you need to present yourself the same way. Your profile should feel inviting and upbeat, with just enough detail to spark curiosity. Avoid sharing too much negativity - like complaints about past partners, rigid expectations, or controversial opinions. Instead, keep it light and focus on creating opportunities for meaningful conversations.

It’s awful, and I wouldn’t recommend it. I’ve had women on dating apps completely ghost me on a first date without even letting me know. Honestly, it feels like the worst people are on those apps.
