What is a suggested senior dating site?

I'm thinking about joining a dating site for people over 60. I’m not looking for a long-term relationship, just a casual friend. These days, it’s not like the old times when you could meet someone at the pub or a dance hall. It’s been nearly two years since my partner passed, and I feel ready to bring some socializing back into my life before I get much older.

That said, I’ve never used a online dating site before, and I’ve heard some unsettling stories about people encountering unsafe or odd matches. Has anyone here tried a senior dating site? What was your experience?

I remember feeling a bit nervous when I started on OurTime. After I became a widower, putting myself out there again felt intimidating. But I thought I had nothing to lose, so I went ahead and created a profile, sharing things I liked - gardening, going to museums, and traveling when I could. The site was easy to use.

For anyone just starting, I’d suggest trying a few different apps. It may take time to find your style of communication, but don’t get discouraged. There are so many great people out there looking for the same connection. Keeping an open mind and being vulnerable helped me embrace new experiences - and eventually, new love.

I’m not a widower, but at 65, I've tried plenty of dating apps over the years. Honestly, I don’t trust most of them, especially with the rise of AI bots and fake profiles these days. A site like Match might do a better job of addressing this issue.

The biggest problem with dating apps is that you never really know who you’re talking to until you have a video chat, like on Zoom or FaceTime. A few years ago, the Unitarian church was a great place to meet other seniors, but I’m not sure what it’s like now.

Many senior dating sites, like Senior Match and SilverSingles, allow you to create a profile and browse matches for free. However, be mindful of hidden fees or features that require payment. Always verify a site's security before sharing personal details. After signing up, be cautious when interacting with new people. Avoid sharing personal information until you’ve confirmed their identity.

No dating site is completely scam-free - they all have scammers. The key is knowing how to spot fake profiles and find genuine people.

Whatever site you use, protect your personal information. Don’t share too many details about your life, money, or exact location. Focus on chatting with people who are interested in you, not just fishing for information.

When you're ready, meet in a public place like a coffee shop or restaurant. If things go well after a few in-person meetings, you can take things further.

Never keep the relationship only online. This is risky for anyone, but especially for seniors. Getting scammed later in life can take away valuable time you could be spending in a real, happy relationship.

I'm 63 and joined Match after a few disappointing real-life dates. On my second day using the app, I connected with two women. I had lunch with one of them, but it didn’t lead to anything. The next day, I met another woman - and she turned out to be the perfect match. We've been happily in love ever since. I chose the six-month premium plan, and so did she. She's 59. Good luck with your search!

I tried several dating sites after my husband passed away. I met four people in person and talked to several others, but nothing worked out. Most of the messages I received were from scammers or from men I wasn't interested in.

I ended a relationship that lasted over a year just last week, so I'm not thinking about online dating right now. I'm not ready yet, but I still hope to find love someday.
